It time for President Ernest Koroma to demonstrate his leadership and save our democracy from the kind of traits experienced in the past election,” says Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) scribe Sulaiman Banja Tejan-Sie.
He was speaking with Awoko after he was asked the way forward following the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Tuesday, in which it was resolved that all MPs and councillors of the SLPP should boycott Parliament and councils.
He explained that they have taken this decision based on the fact that the National Electoral Commission (NEC) refused to address the irregularities highlighted by the SLPP and that the SLPP NEC had also in a Release after their marathon meeting called for the unconditional release of all SLPP members and supporters who are currently in Police custody in the spirit of reconciliation, to also nolle prosequi all pending political matters in the courts and they also demanded an independent international assessment of the electoral process, results and the democratic institutions involved in the process.
The SLPP scribe therefore called on President Ernest Bai Koroma to display statesmanship and good leadership quality by embracing all in a gesture of inclusiveness.
According to the SLPP Secretary-General, the party’s NEC is made up of all former and present SLPP MPs, councilors and Mayors and that they were all present when the decisions were taken.
“I therefore do not want to waste time debunking all those speculations that the new MPs will not go according to the decision of boycotting as they were part of the decision of NEC.
As for the rumoured list of ministers, that is so unrealistic, that I will not even bother to comment on such trivial. It is therefore wrong for anyone to think that we will pick a cabinet when we did not win the elections. It’s crazy and who did it, is just being mischievous,” he said in an angry tone.
