Scouts undergo initial leaders training course

Over 45 Rover scouts drawn from Area 1 to 3 in the Western Area of Freetown over the weekend, completed the Initial Leaders Training Course for Units Leaders at the Prince Of Wales Secondary School, Kingtom.
The course which is conducted by the Sierra Leone Scouts Association was to upgrade and equip Rovers scouts who are expected to become Units Leaders in guiding and training of cub, junior and senior scouts in the country.
According to the course leader, who also doubles as the Scouts Association Training Associations, Adult Resource Commissioner II, Scouter Arnold Palmer, the one-day course was also to equipped Rover scouts to become good and better leaders.
He said one of the purposes of scouting is to contribute to the full potentials of human being adding that the Initial training is the first phase of several others.
Scouter Palmer said the training will also help the Units Leaders to contribute to the wellbeing of young people by volunteering themselves to the scout movement.
Wide range of topics were covered in the one-day training ranging from the progressive scheme which covers the standard and proficiency being a leader in scouting, the role and responsibilities as a leader, the organizational structure of scouting and more.
The second phase of the training will be conducted on Saturday October 13 in the Eastern part of Freetown, which is also expected to attract over 40 scouts in the east.
