“On my honour I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country as a female scout,” Aminatu Kanu told the press in an exclusive interview after participating in the beach cleaning by the Sierra Leone Scouts Association. Speaking with Kanu, who is one of the outstanding scouts in Sierra Leone, she said being a scout is not only about learning “left, right, left, right” as others think, nor is it only for boys.
She said this while encouraging others to join the scout movement as “there is a lot to learn when you become a scout”.
She furthered that the scout movement is a movement for the homeless, disclosing that the scouts association gave her a renewed life after losing her speech and eyesight in 2018 and 2019 respectively, by taking care of her medical bills. She said the scouting movement does not discriminate, as they live as a family, and appealed for more females to join.
Kanu appreciated the scouts association for its immense contributions to her life, adding: “I have never regretted my action of being a scout, and I’m always willing to serve the scout association at all time.”
The Chief Commissioner of the scouting association, Nylander–Kargbo, popularly known as Agbaoo”, commended Aminatu for her obedience to and hard work in the scouting movement, noting that the lady has always been an example for others.
He concluded by calling on other ladies to come on board as a way of improving their skills and characters.
