Bollore Freetown Terminal last Saturday 22nd November 2019, gave school materials to 280 children. The materials included bags, exercise books, pens, pencils, geometry sets and Oxford dictionaries. Bertrand Kerguelen, General Manager of Freetown Terminal, said the company is happy to help promote education… “because education is the key. We need more educated people in the country and therefore you are all encouraged to make good use of what we are offering.” Lamin Koroma, Chair of Seaside community said, “This is the second time Freetown Terminal is giving out such benefits to the community, and this has changed the story of our community.” He added that the recipients have increased from 123 pupils to 280 for both primary and secondary levels. He said the beneficiaries were selected through a transparent process in which every executive member in the community was asked to choose a school going child in Sea Side community. He said the company decided to use local products in replacement of imported bags because they want to promote local products. Lamin also mentioned a month ago, the company gave out scholarships to 15 students. “The community can now boast of college graduates from different universities,” Lamin said. Rugiatu Fullah-Conteh a mother of one of the beneficiaries said after residing in the Sea Side community for the past 34-years what Freetown Terminal has done for her kid is one of the most favourable things that have happened to her… “because educating my child is like granting me a safe retirement.”
