The President for the Campaign for Peace and Non Violence in Schools, Sierra Leone Chapter Mohamed Khazally Rahman a form four pupil of the Albert Academy Secondary School has called on pupils to desist from violent activities in schools.
He told Awoko that: Violence in schools have resulted in many pupils dropping out from Schools in the country. “It is known today that violence has been very popular in school especially in sporting activities”, he said. Majority of school pupils carry weapons in their bags in the form of knives, pistol among others.
Rahman said “We have identified 3 major types of violence in schools all over the world, which are corporal punishment, sexual violence and bullying”. He further pointed out that teachers in some school are very bad in punishing pupils especially with Male teachers who at times involve in sexual violence among girl child. At times some of these teachers impregnate some of these girls and run away. Even this exist between pupil to pupil. In this plight we as children are now working hand in hand with the Ministry of Education Youth and Sports, and other stake holders in the Global Campaign against Violence in school. “Join the campaign for peace and non violence in your school and let us all as children start the campaign to end violence in school for the benefit of our future and country.”
