Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – Justice Adrian Fisher has rescheduled the corruption trial involving the leader of Sierra Leone’s main opposition party, the All People’s Congress (APC), Samura Kamara, and five co-accused individuals to commence on October 27, 2023. The trial was initially set to begin on October 6, 2023, but has been postponed.
Justice Fisher attributed the delay to pressing court commitments. In an official notice, he clarified that the trial would proceed daily, even on Saturdays if necessary, until its conclusion. He emphasized that the court would only consider further adjournments in exceptional circumstances.
Samura Kamara, along with the five co-accused individuals, faces corruption allegations related to the mismanagement of funds earmarked for the renovation of Sierra Leone’s Chancery Building in New York. The charges against Kamara include misleading the principal and misappropriation of public funds. Kamara vehemently denies these allegations, characterizing them as a smear campaign against his reputation. MJB/18/9/2023
