Vice President Alhaji Sam Sumana will today officially launch the Sierra Leone Youth Leadership Express Forum organized by Salone Youth and Adolescent Network on Population and Development (SaLYAN) at the British Council auditorium.
The forum will be jointly launched by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, Youth division, UNFPA and Sierra Leone’s Youth Ambassador.
SaLYAN National Coordinator, Shekou Ansumana Nuni explained that the rationale is to provide the opportunity for participants to experience a process of intellectual dialogue and to plan how to establish contacts, form networks and partnerships and to share good practices which can be used as resource in the actualization of our dreams as young people.
He further explained that forum is themed: If Not Now, When? If Not Us, Who? Isn’t it time to tap the power of young people?
The Coordinator said that the forum is an educational platform that showcases young people who are exemplary in their career plans.
It is an important mechanism where national social issues and their impact in the national context will be discussed for developing a new vision and a long term strategy for youth transformation.
Other speakers that will be profiled in this occasion are the President of the Sierra Leone of Journalists (SLAJ) Umaru Fofanah, Sierra Leone Youth Ambassador Anthony Junior Navo, Director of Campaign for Good Governance (CGG) Valnora Edwin among others.
SaLYAN strives towards addressing issues relating to population and development, promoting adolescents and young people’s reproductive health and fighting against the pandemic of HIV/AIDS, promote advocacy and resources mobilization in order to improve young people’s quality of life in Sierra Leone and to achieve the Millennium Development goals, African Youth Charter and Afriyan’s program of action.
