The Sierra Leone delegation to this year’s Olympic Games will now have a sigh of relief as they are sure of being part of the world’s foremost athletics convergence due in London.
The sigh of relief has come following the payment on Tuesday, 28th February 2012 of a cumulative backlog debt owed to the World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) in the tune of US$ 2, 168, 000 (two thousand one hundred and sixty eight Dollars) for the period 2008-2012.
The decision to pay was decided at a joint meeting with the Ministry of Youth Employment and Sports at the Minister’s office at Bishop House, National Stadium in Freetown.
Payment of the WADA debt (subscription) is a pre-requisite for participation at the 2012 Olympic Games.
In another related development, the Minster of Youth, Employment and Sports, Paul Kamara has ratified the UNESCO Anti-Doping Convention, thus fulfilling all WADA requirements.
