Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – The prospect of a medal for Sierra Leone in the ongoing All Africa Games in Accra appears to be diminishing rapidly, with the country’s table tennis pair eliminated from the singles competition last week.
Bredford Sawyer faced a defeat in three straight sets (3-0) against Ivorian opponent Ben Moussar Dosso, while Emmanuel Koroma experienced a similar fate, losing with identical scores to Jonathan Senyonga of Uganda. Unfortunately, tennis becomes the first among the 14 sporting disciplines representing Sierra Leone to be ousted from the games.
Issa Kamara, expressing his sentiments, remarked that the athletes cannot be solely blamed as internal conflicts among the association executives are undermining the sport. Kamara urged the authorities to intervene and resolve the disputes for the benefit of the athletes.
“Blaming the athletes is not fair in this situation. The association executives are still fighting each other, which is not good for the sport. I call on the authorities to come on board to stop such issues for the good of the athletes,” Kamara emphasized. BT/11/3/2024
