The Sierra Leone National Male Handball Team is expected to participate in the in the ECOWAS/Commonwealth Men Handball Championship slated for April 18-22, 2012 in Abuja, Nigeria alongside several other countries.
The tournament is expected to attract about seven countries including the host Nigeria, Cameroon, Ghana, The Gambia, Sierra Leone and two other countries yet to be named.
According to the information gathered by Awoko Sports, the competition will be organized by the Abuja-based Commonwealth Handball Association (CHA).
According to a statement issued by the Chief Executive Officer of the CHA, Malam Garba Attahiru, the Championship will be hosted by the FCT Sports Council whilst the Design and Build Company (D&B Company) is partnering with the CHA to provide brand new jersey’s for all the participating teams.
The information also stated that the Minister of the FCT is expected to provide free accommodation and feeding for all the participating teams.
Meanwhile, the Sierra Leone Handball Association is yet to confirmation whether or not they will compete in the planned competition or not as the association is looking for sponsors that will facilitate the team’s basic needs during training and to enhance the team’s transportation to Nigeria.
