Sierra Leone male beach volleyball team departs for Gambia ahead of Tokyo 2020 Olympic qualification. Team Sierra Leone departs for Banjul as they start a third straight attempt to qualify to a senior Olympic Game having done so in the Youth Olympic Games five years ago when they qualified to the Nanjing Youth Olympic Games after being crowned as champions of Africa in Accra, Ghana in the Africa Youth Nations Cup in 2014. The team first entered for an Olympic qualification in 2011 when then played in the first Continental Cup in 2011 for the London 2012 Olympic Games. In the 2016 the team ended up in 4th position in the continental cup for Rio 2016 Olympic Games. The team is represented by the National beach volleyball captain John S Kamara and Ismael Bangura as team one and Sonny Bangura and Mohamed Kamara as team two. Gambia (host and ranked 5th in Africa), Sierra Leone (Ranked 7th), Guinea (Ranked 28), Mali (Ranked 32nd) and Cape Verde are the teams due to compete in the tournament but Cape Verde had since withdrawn from the tournament. The tournament will start today and end on 26th November 2019.
