The Sierra Leone Handball team that took part in this year U-19 Challenge trophy 8th edition tournament in Mali this month has returned home with some pride as they were able to bring home a trophy for the best team fair play in the competition.
It was reported that the Sierra Leone team that were able to present the right age of players in the tournament as they were able to produce the passport of all the Sierra Leonean players. The other countries failed to produce passports for their players. The competition was won by Senegal and in second position was Guinea and the host Mali came third.
The Sierra Leone team was not able to be among the first three because the players they took to the competition were not the right players .They lost most of their matches because of weight and the maturity of the players compared to the other countries that took some of their national players to the competition.
Also before the competition a 6 man Technical Committee was selected to handle every technical matter during the competition
The committee comprises of Dr Glover, Moussa Keita,Kabassan,Ivone Laurans,Terje Anthonson ,Aziz Sall Techncian voluntary and Seidou Guindo
Seven countries took part in the tournament and these countries were divided into two groups. In pool A were Guniea,Mali,Cape Verde,and Sierra Leone
While in pool B were Senegal Gambia,and Mauritania
