The Sierra Leone delegation for the Youth Commonwealth Games in Pune would depart Freetown today for the competition. The delegation comprises of five (5) athletes and would be led by Pamela Williams; an Officer from Sports Council.
The five (5) athletes are drawn from three different sporting disciplines; and these are Solomon Kambay, the captain, Umaru Allie and Michaela Kargbo, for the track and field events; Abubakarr Bangura, for lawn tennis and Emmanuel Gboyah for table tennis. The team also paid a courtesy call on the Director of Sports, Bai Kabia, who assured them of government’s support and appealed to them to put the country first at all times. The National Olympic Committee (NOC) also boosts the athletes association by donation equipments to the athletes which they will be used in Indian during the competition
Solomon Kambay noted that this is his debut and that he intends to bring laurels back home. He is the current champion in the 100 meters.
