President of the Sierra Leone National Cycling Association (SLNCA) Winston D.C Crowther presently in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates has been put in charge of the African Cycling Team participating in the ongoing Abu Dhabi Cycling Championship.
Crowther told Awoko Sports on the phone from United Arab Emirates, that he was appointed to deputize the President of the Confederation of African Cycling (CAC) Egyptian-born Dr Wagih Azzam who could not make the trip. “I am extremely happy to take up the responsibility and pretty well sure, I will leave up to the expectations,” he said.
The Abu Dhabi Cycling Championship started on Thursday November 22 2012, with the African Cycling Team comprising 18 cyclists from different African countries who formed three teams of six cyclists each.
According to Crowther, two Sierra Leonean cyclists, Moses Sesay (National Captain) and Augustine Sesay, were part of the team but failed to be in the Emirates because his association could not afford to buy air tickets for them.
The Competition is expected to end on Monday November 26th while the CAC Elective Congress will be held on February 15th 2012 in Egypt, were according to information, Winston Crowther is expected to contest for one of the positions in the CAC Executive.
