The former Military Head of State, CPT (rtd) Valentine Esegrabo Melvin Strasser has commented that the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) is not capable of fighting Guinea over Yenga.
The former Head of State, over the weekend granted an interview to Awoko, on a wide range of issues; where he remarked that the RSLAF was incapable to take on their Guinean counterpart over the disputed border town of Yenga.
Yenga had been occupied by Guinean soldiers during the conflict in Sierra Leone and since then, their occupation had continued despite series of negotiations.
Speaking to Valentine Strasser on the Yenga dispute, he said that it would be prudent to opt for a diplomatic solution rather than a military option.
He justified that the RSLAF were incapacitated.
“I don’t think a military solution is even viable as the State doesn’t have the apparatus to do it.
This I can assure you given the fact that I have been able to discuss this with some Senior Military Officers”, he said.
He proffered solutions that negotiations could start at the ECOWAS level by raising the issue; then to AU and thereafter to the International Court.
He referred to what Saddam Hussein did in Kuwait by invading the country, which caused the United Nations to use force against him.
