The President of the Sierra Leone Weightlifting Association Ibrahim Bangura has been appointed Secretary General of the Weightlifting Federation of ECOWAS.
His appointment was done during the African Congress in Tunis over the weekend.
The appointment of Ibrahim Koroma does not come as a surprise as he has contributed towards Weightlifting since he took over some months ago and also for his contribution during the congress which was instructive to all the stakeholders present.
The Electoral Congress of the Weightlifting Federation of Africa was held under the auspices of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF).
They were able to elect a new leadership of the Federation for the next term and the congress initiated by IWF will replace the inconclusive Electoral Congress held in Egypt last October that was chaired by IWF President Dr Tamas Ajan.
The Tunisian Weightlifting Federation took over the technical organization and played the host role.
It had 29 member countries of the Weightlifting Federation of Africa (WFA) in attendance with 21 enjoying voting rights in accordance with the WFA constitution.
One of the two candidates for President Gamil Hanna (EGY) a co-founder of the WFA who had been bearing this title since 1986 resigned and ceded the president position to Khaled Mhalhel (LBA) who was thus elected unopposed.
The General Secretary position was taken by Eshelli Manareddin.
