The Sierra Leone /Israel Friendship Society has rendered their support to the government and people of Israel during their time of mayhem.
At a press conference on Wednesday 16th January at the Mix Flavor Relaxation in Freetown, President and Coordinator of the Society Sirajin Rollings Kamara said that, as friends with Israel “we thought it fit to stand by the people and government of Israel.”
He added that, during the last two months alone, more than 600 rockets and mortar shells were fired at Israeli civilian communities in Southern Israel.
“These deliberate attacks against civilians intensified lately, in particular since mid- December, after Hamas announced the termination of the state of calm”, he said.
Kamara said that despite ongoing rocket and mortar shell attacks for many days, Israel has exhausted all means and efforts to reach quiet without using force and to respect the state of calm facilitated through the good offices of Egypt.
Israel he said, will continue to facilitate the work of international and humanitarian organizations by allowing the entrance of workers and equipment from ICRC, UNRWA and World Food Programme (WFP).
“Unfortunately, few days ago, Hamas prevented humanitarian supplies from being brought in from Egypt to Gaza, and during the weekend, Hamas prevented the departure of injured Palestinians requesting medical attention in Egypt” said Kamara.
The President noted that, although Israel has withdrawn completely from Gaza strip during summer 2005, leaving no single Israeli civilian or solider behind, ever since the Hamas took control of the region, it has chosen to acquire deadly weapons, hold the Israeli kidnapped solider Gilad Shalit and deliberately attack more than quarter of a million of Israelis inside sovereign territory on a daily basis.
“No country in the world would be willing to accept this kind of onslaught on its citizens for such an extended period without taking the necessary actions to stop it”, he said.
Israel, he said expects the understanding and support of the international community to its war against this terror organization, as it advances the interest of all those who wish that peace and coexistence will prevail in our region.
However, he said that Sierra Leoneans living in Israel are safe.
