“The Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces is about to undertake an eviction exercise to regularize their land holding rights highlighting acquisition, ownership and encroachment on military lands using legal channel” a Ministry of Defense media release has warned.
According to the release, the Army will soon embark on an exercise “aimed at resurveying all Ministry land with the view of determining the level of encroachments that have occurred on these lands.”
The release underscored that “military lands are composed of lands acquired during the colonial era for defense purposes, and also lands occupied by the RSLAF through the assistance of the government of Sierra Leone during the 1970’s (Teko and Lungi Barracks), Ops PEBU sites including land at Senehun for the proposed Armed Forces Agriculture Unit, Gondama and Naval Forward Operational Bases up country.”
