The Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) 3rd Infantry Brigade Headquarters at the Rural Training Institute (RTI) in Kenema has embanked on the rehabilitation of the road linking Hangha Town to New London Amputees Camps in the Nongowa Chiefdom in the Kenema District.
The main purpose of the road maintenance is in preparation for the commissioning of the newly constructed store, dry floor and common hall, constructed by the German Technical Cooperation/ Food Security and Reconciliation (GTZ/FSR) technical wing with support from the German Embassy in Sierra Leone for the New London Amputee Camp at Hangha by the German Ambassador to Sierra Leone.
In an interview with Awoko at the maintenance site at Hangha Road, the Chairman of Amputee Welfare Association in Kenema District, Solomon Cooper commended the Brigade Commander Lt. Col. Marrah, Officers and men of the Third Infantry Brigade Headquarters for coming to their aid.
He disclosed that the road would not only benefit the amputees but also the Potahun, Hangha and Talia Makaya Communities. He described the intervention of the military as timely and expressed gratitude to Karl Eyrich and his team for their support to the amputees over the years.
The Communication Officer, Captain Francis Amara speaking on behalf of the 3rd Infantry Brigade disclosed that in line with the Military Assistance Civil Populace, the Military has undertaken series of development programs in Kenema District including construction of bridges and markets.
He pointed out that the road under maintenance at the moment is a major link between Kenema, Daru, Segbwema, and Kailahun and even beyond.
Captain Amara further emphasized that the Military is always ready to give a helping hand to not only the amputees but to the entire citizenry, as they are now focused on healing the wounds of the war.
He stressed that their doors are always open to the Amputees for any assistance and called on Sierra Leoneans to remain law abiding and work together for the development of the Country.
