The Manager of the Kono Branch of Rokel Commercial Bank has sued the Mayor of Koidu City Sahr Sessie Gbenda and thirteen other Councilors, after they allegedly failed to honor conditions and terms of a loan given to them by the bank.
According to the Bank Manager, Steven Sandy, in 2010, the Mayor, his Deputy, and thirteen other councilors were each given a loan of Le 10, 000, 000 (ten million Leones) by the bank on the promise or repaying after transacting a certain business. The Manager stated that to his “greatest disappointment” one year after, the loans have not been paid. He said none of the creditors bothered to show up to explain why they are unable to repay the loan.
The Manager maintained that since they have failed to show understanding with the bank, he posited, “The bank is left with no other option but to sue them to court in order to regain its money.”
He said he had earlier informed the then Magistrate Arnold Gooding of the bank’s intention to sue the Mayor and his Councilors, but this was thwarted as a result of political interference.
The Bank Manager has asserted that being that the Magistrate Court in Kono now has a new Magistrate; he will do all within his power, to push for an indictment in an effort to reclaim his bank’s money.
