The Regional Superintendent of Prisons Eastern Region Cecelia Kaikai has embark on an on the spot visit of prison quarters in Kono Kenema Kailahun to inspect facilities and conditions of service of prison officers in the country.
She lamented that, she is working under difficult situations in her area of responsibility by highlighting her constraints, she made mention of lack of an office space for her unit, as a result she has resorted to doing the office job at her rented house.
Cecelia described to our Southern Region Correspondent how prisons facilities are below standards and that abuse of prisoner’s right, are indeed matters of great concern to authorities. She also said that adequate modalities are being worked out to improve on the facilities.
She however made mention of progress being made for the construction of prison facilities in Kono and Kenema and efforts are being made to expedite the Kailahun quarters so as to maintain standards.
On the issue of female inmates she said that there are 5 five female inmates in Kenema (3) three in Kono and another (3) three in Kailahun there are no longer juvenile inmates on her area of supervision. She also spoke about the level of commitment and determination exhibited by prison officers working under difficult circumstances in the Provinces.
