The Resident Minister East Hon. William Juana Smith has officially launched the first phase of the Human Rights Commission at the Catholic hall along Buedu road in Kailahun town.
The Resident minister who was addressing his audience first congratulated the commissioners of the Human Right Commission Sierra Leone (HRCSL) for working assiduously to produce such a comprehensive report within record time.
He stated that the purpose of launching the report is to raise awareness as partners in development and very crucial as taught in the society to the concept of Human Right as it impacts on daily life of all. The Minister said the Sierra Leone government has signed almost all of the important international treaties of Humanitarian laws and Human Right.
He called on all to adopt all the necessary measures to enable the speeches they are uttering to have actual impact on the citizens of this nation.
Hon. William Juana Smith admonished all and sundry to use the section offer by the Human Right Commission to engage themselves meaningfully and also disseminate and implement the knowledge gained in their various communities.
The Resident Minister East told his audience that the All People’s Congress (APC) government under the leadership of His Excellency Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma put’s great premium on Human Rights Groups and that it is one of the main concerns of government to identify ways and means to improve and effect its implementation.
He emphasized that the APC government places great importance on the quality of the livelihood of all citizen and consequently attaches great importance to one of the priority areas of the enhancement of good governance and democracy which he described as a respect of rule of law human right and fundamental freedom.
