The Resident Minister East Hon. William Juana Smith has distributed certificates to fifteen participants after completing weeklong forest conservation training at Friends of the Earth office at Gava Forestry compound organized by Friends of the Earth Sierra Leone (FOE-SL).
The certification ceremony took place at the Resident Minister’s office along Maxwell Khobe Street in Kenema in the presence of the Provincial Secretary east Alhaji Salia Magona and other stakeholders.
In his keynote address the Resident Minister East Hon. William Juana Smith thanked and lauded the effort made by Friends of the Earth Sierra Leone for their positive venture to train the youths of this region in forest conservation which he said their function is the same as forest rangers because it is geared towards preserving the forest in the country, he cautioned them to also pay attention to the rivers as well; he then promised to sell their programme to the minister of Agriculture Forestry and Food Security so that it can take a wider scale.
Earlier in his statement the National Coordinator Friends of the Earth Sierra Leone (FOE-SL) Mohamed Kenie Sei welcomed all and sundry to the certification ceremony and thanked them for gracing the occasion and also gave a brief background of the one week training, saying that they will not only focus on deforestation in the eastern region but the entire country.
In his closing remarks Mohamed Sellu one of the participants assured his audience of their commitment in protecting the forest and said they are confident as forest campaigners that they will do their best to contribute to nation building and also effect positive change in the minds of the citizen of this nation so that everyone will change his or her attitude towards nation development.
