Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – Replacement Proposal – Yue Yixin, the Project Manager of SPPR Construction Company overseeing the rehabilitation work at the stadium, has disclosed plans to remove all current seats and install new ones. However, this proposal may extend the project duration by 12 months.
Speaking during a closed-door meeting with Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai Esq, the Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yixin explained that discussions with the Sierra Leone working group and the Chinese delegation highlighted the addition of seat installation to the project scope. While the Chinese Government is willing to undertake this task, Yixin expressed concerns about safety and quality standards to protect the stadium structure from future damage.
“If both governments agree to the terms, a supplementary contract agreement would be signed to initiate the work,” Yixin stated. He emphasized that the proposed 12-month extension may still face challenges due to the need for demolition and reconstruction in certain areas, compounded by potential delays during the rainy season.
Addressing concerns raised by the Executive Director regarding the basketball pavilion, Yixin confirmed that provisions for the pavilion are included in the project plans. Additionally, he assured that the practice field, swimming pool, and hostels will be completed by year-end.
The revelation of the proposed seat replacement underscores the commitment to enhancing the stadium’s infrastructure, albeit with potential project timeline adjustments to ensure quality and safety standards are met. BT/2/5/2024
