The Sierra Leone Red Cross Society (SLRCS), Kailahun branch, has awarded certificates and tool kits to 142 grandaunts after a successful ten-month training in various skill-training courses. In her contribution the training supervisor, Nancy Bockarie, said the exercise was aimed at encouraging young people to make good use of their lives through their skills rather than continuously being on the streets engaged in odd jobs and crimes. She disclosed that majority of the youth, who survived after the war, were left with no option but to involve in crimes, prostitution, and drug abuse.
Madam Bockarie however thanked the community people for their corporation and support in providing a portion of land for the construction of the organization’s new rehabilitation centre. The chairman of the Kailahun District Council (KDC), Augustine Kortu, lauded the efforts of the organization, and pledged the council’s fullest support to the organization.
