Qcell launches 4G LTE to improve their network
Mobile telecommunications company Qcell on Thursday launched the 4G LTE network that will cover Freetown and Lungi at the Youyi building car park.
In his statement the Chief Executive Officer of the company, Jayamani Karthik, said that they started operations in 2018 with 2G and 3G and now they have seen it necessary to launch the 4G LTE, which he said is faster and crystal clear for voice.
He said since they launched in Sierra Leone they have been working very hard to improve their system and to expand so that they can serve the country to the best of their ability. The CEO averred that since they started operations in the country, they have stood the test of time to compete in the telecommunications industry, beating rival service providers in almost every aspect including but not limited to the provision of quality and reliable network, fast internet service, low voice and data tariff, expansion of coverage among others.
“Now we have decided to go a step forward and launch the 4G LTE that will make sure that we compete at the highest level. The 4G LTE is a term used to describe the type of wireless technology that powers nationwide network, the largest and most reliable wireless network in the world. Whenever you’re using wireless data on your device – whether you’re downloading, streaming, surfing the web or checking email and you see ‘LTE’ light up at the top of your screen, you’re using 4G LTE. And what does ‘4G LTE’ stand for? 4G LTE is short for ‘fourth generation long-term evolution’. So it’s actually two terms combined. First, ‘4G’ represents the fourth generation of mobile technology, the next big advancement after 3G. And ‘long-term evolution’, or ‘LTE’, is industry jargon used to describe the particular type of 4G that delivers the fastest mobile internet experience. So with a network like ours you’re getting the best of both worlds when it comes to using wireless data – 4G and LTE.”
Mr. Karthik noted that many people should know that 4G LTE is fast. But what does that actually mean when it comes to using your phone? It means downloading is 10 times faster than with 3G. It means webpages that load in an instant. It means smoother video and music streaming. In short, 4G LTE gives the subscribers the ability to utilise and experience the internet in a quicker and richer way.
“By enabling video viewing and data sharing at a pace not realised before, LTE has turned our smartphones into powerful connected devices that we can carry anywhere. And it’s opened up new possibilities for both our personal and professional lives.”
The Qcell CEO called on all mobile network providers to work together to make sure that the customers across the country enjoy mobile telecommunications. He said all of them can work together to install masts than individual companies installing them, which he said environmentally is not good for the country. He thanked NATCOM for their support as they were able to grant them the license within a short time for them to join the 4G LTE network in the country.
Launching the Qcell 4G LTE, NATCOM chairman Joe Blell said he was happy that they worked with them to get it done and promised that NATCOM will continue to work with Qcell in the future as long as they are doing the right thing.
“I want to support the Qcell CEO for appealing to other mobile network operators to come together and work as a team for the benefit of the consumers. Really if they work together in installing these poles it will be cost effective and will make sure that they all can cover areas that they are yet to reach. I hope that this 4G LTE will serve the nation very well, and on behalf of the government and people of Sierra Leone I am launching the QCELL 4G LTE that intends to give more assurance to Sierra Leoneans in the ICT world.”
Qcell management were happy for the launch as they made it very clear that they are working with ZTE that is providing them the equipment they are using, which are of high quality.
They donated face masks to different ministries including, Information, Works, Education and Health, and also agencies including NATCOM, NRA, FCC, RSLAF, SLP, Parliament, and Kingharman Road Hospital.
