Secondary school pupils have praised the People’s Choice Awards (PCA) and Sulaiman Conteh, the president of the organization, for the scholarships given them last year.
One of the beneficiaries, Sahr Issa Mansaray of the Ahamadiya Secondary School in Freetown, said the scholarships given them by the People’s Choice Awards created big impacts on them, “especially those of my colleagues whose parents cannot afford to pay their school fees”.
“The scholarships have motivated some of us to do well to have another scholarship from them again,” he noted, adding that “because of the scholarships given to us we (pupils) have decided to form an organization under the People’s Choice Award called the People’s Choice Award Voluntary Organization (PAVO)”.
Sahr Issa Mansaray, who also is the president of PAVO, stated that the People’s Choice Awards were empowering youths for the future to be self reliant.
The president noted that, “the objective of People’s Choice Awards is to organize credible awards, to design project proposals for fund raising activities; to focus on education, youths and sports through provision of recreational centres and donation of trophies to schools’ Physical Education Departments.”
Sahr Issa Mansaray explained that this time the PCA would give scholarships, trophies and certificates to more than one hundred students from secondary schools and vocational institutes, adding that on April 28 scholarships would be given to outstanding pupils at the National Stadium swimming pool.
