Ten people are reported to have died after they were believed to have eaten poisoned fish at Sulima in the Pujehun District. In all 20 cases have been reported of which 10 have died, while involves 2 girls aged between 0-5 years and 6 years and above includes 2 male, and 6 females.
According to Dr. A.J. Musa, the medical doctor in charge of the Pujehun hospital, “38 cases were reported of acute diarrhea after they ate the “moi’ fish”.
According to our reporter who visited the scene at Sulima they have the fishing practice of placing poison in the water and when the fish get there they get drunk and they can then be easily caught.
It was the “moi” fish which was caught in the process of using the poison that these people fed on. Reports from the area indicate that some of the villagers started vomiting after eating the poison contaminated fish.
As at last night 10 had died while another 18 are still being treated.
Dr. Musa has intensified his efforts to address the situation which has left the township in mourning.
