Amidst the ‘watertight’ security at the Central Maximum Prisons at Pademba Road, four inmates made good their escape early Monday morning; scaling over the fence by the Prisons garden.
The four were Tamba Fengai, aka ‘Kono Boy’ who was serving an eight month jail term; Junior Karim, on trial for conspiracy, larceny and receiving; Mohamed Kandeh, who was serving a two month imprisonment and Abubakarr Kamara serving a two year jail term for unlawful possession of cannabis sativa.
However, luck ran out of Tamba Fengai, after he landed on top of a broken object that resulted in a deep cut on his foot, which prevented him from escaping.
He was eventually apprehended while the three others made good their escape. Sources within the Central Maximum Prison confirmed to Awoko that the prisoners planned their escape from Howard Block and it was further alleged that the cell doors were not closed. What has baffled the Prison Authorities is the allegation that these four were never allocated to that block; and how they managed to be at the block at night is now the subject of investigations by the Prison personnel.
Furthermore , the source confirmed to Awoko that the required number of personnel that were supposed to be on duty that night was 13, but only 6 turned up for duty.
