The Deputy Director of Education (DDE) Kenema District John Amara Swaray has warned all Principals and head teachers in the Kenema District against extra charges in the schools. Mr. Swaray made this statement when speaking to Awoko at his Maxwell Khobe street office in Kenema city.
He disclosed that he has formed the school complaint committee where parents and the general public will make complaint against any school and its authority to the committee for investigation, adding that he has announced to all principals of secondary schools and head teachers of primary schools not to demand any extra school charges from the parents especially for admission cases into their schools.
He maintained that school authorities must stick to the approved government charges for schools adding that the complaint committee formed will monitor the schools in ensuring that no parent is over charged and that any parent that is over charged should report the matter to the committee immediately and the committee should take serious action against the defaulter. He warned parents not to force the teachers and school authority to do the wrong thing because of influence of money or otherwise.
The Director further stated that no school should admit any pupil to JSS one this year who did not pass the National Primary School Examination (NPSE). Mr. Swaray maintained that any pupil found admitted to Junior Secondary School (JSS) one for this academic year in the district without the NPSE result will be dealt with seriously by the law and any authority in question will face the full penalty of the law for going against the government policy.
He further cautioned all principals and other school authorities not to employ any teacher into school from another school without a release letter from the previous employer, and the teacher transferring to a new school must come with the transfer document from the previous school.
The Deputy Director calls on the general public especially the parents to report any matter concerning the school system to the complaint committee rather than taking it to the police first.
He appealed to both the parents and the school authorities to maintain the good working relationship in the interest of their children which he says are the future leaders of the country.
