The dilapidated peninsular road by the Goderich end, on which President Ernest Bai Koroma rides to State House and back home since Monday, is at present under temporary construction.
Speaking with the head of the renovating team who preferred anonymity, she explained that the renovation was temporary as the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA) had awarded the contract for proper renovation of the road to a private construction company ‘Bow Limited.’
She noted that they intervened because the road was going extremely bad, and that that would serve as something temporary till the construction company continued with its work after the rains.
The head of the field workers, who also preferred anonymity, explained that the reason for the road dilapidation was that, “the drainage built by SCSA [the company which constructed the road earlier] is small and as such the water over flows to the road destroying it”
Giving reasons for the rapid dilapidation of the road, he explained that, “the ground is sandy…the water that over flows from the drainage to the road coupled with heavy duty vehicles which ply the route almost 24 hours are rapidly destroying the road.” He claimed that the filler that SCSA used to grid the road few years back was not proper and as such the renovation was always short lived.
