
The President of the Republic of Sierra Leone Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma on Saturday 5th April 2008 called on over 300 graduands of the Eastern Polytechnic to be dignified in their conduct, and output and to be positive in their service to the nation.
His Excellency Dr. Koroma made this appeal at the conferment of Degrees and Award of Diplomas and Certificates to graduands at the Eastern Polytechnic compound in Kenema city.
This is the second congregation at the Eastern Polytechnic.
He said the Eastern Polytechnic has a critical role to play in the development aspirations of Sierra Leone and thanked the Institution for its achievement in training quality level manpower in nursing, technical, vocational and engineering careers to meet the needs of Sierra Leone since it inception.
Sierra Leone today he said is faced with many challenges as a post war country adding that the nation has suffered for a variety of things such as corruption, tribalism and pull him down syndrome. The solution to this problem Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma said is a change of attitude. He said every human being living in this country within the sovereignty of Sierra Leone must change back from the ways of doing things to a new one.
He said the call is for all in the society.
He called on all to work together as one united family so that we can develop our country Sierra Leone.
He thanked the Paramount chiefs, elders and traditional rulers for the way and manner in which they have created an enabling environment for the establishment of a unique institution such as the Eastern Polytechnic.
The Polytechnic education world over emphasis is on the training of young women and men to meet the middle level human resources needs of the nation. As government he will provide all the necessary support within its power in order to help our national polytechnic to meet their organizational needs. The Eastern Polytechnic has a critical role to play in the development aspirations of Sierra Leone he said.
