Sierra Leone Premier League clubs are set to organize a Super League in a bid to try and bring the Premier League clubs and football family together because since the end of the league nothing has been done so far to start the new league.
Presently there is no SLFA executive as FIFA has dissolved the executive and advised them to form a Normalization Committee that will run the affairs of the FA until a new executive is formed.
Up till now, no Normalization Committee has been formed, so it was against this back ground that chairmen of the premier league clubs decided to come together to organize a Super League that would not only keep the game alive locally but also ensure that the home based club players are fit for any future international competitions.
If all this goes as planned the Super League will start in the first week of December 2012.
Speaking on the issue at the National Stadium Hostels, Old Edwardians FC Chairman Emmanuel Abdulai said they (Premier league clubs) wanted to make sure the game was on course across the country and appealed to members of the press to assist them in propagating their vision.
“We the Premier League clubs want to make sure unity prevails among and within ourselves that is why we want to make sure we organize the Super League in which the winner will bag Le50m, runner-up Le 30m and third place Le 20m.” “12 Premier League clubs will take part in the Super League and we are also considering involving two Division One teams SLIFA and Sheffield United”.
“We want the Chairmen of all the clubs to take responsibility in this venture and take the game to our different communities including the provincial towns”.
As most of these matches will be played in our various communities while Freetown teams who are supposed to play Diamond Stars in Kono will not play in Kono but Makeni because of the bad road to Kono.
But all provincial teams that are supposed to play Diamond Stars in Kono must play them there because the distance to Kono is shorter.
He also stated there is no conflict between them (Premier league clubs), the Football Association and the Ministry and they are not envisaging any problems once the Super League starts. He further stated that they would all be seeking sponsorship for the league.
