The Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC) has urged all political parties to abide by the laws relating to campaign financing
According to a press release issued by Commission charged with the responsibility of monitoring and supervising the conduct of registered political parties, ‘cognizance of the need to support political parties to fulfill their obligation under the Political Parties Act relating to campaign financing, the PPRC in collaboration with International Foundation of Electoral System (IFES), has taken steps to produce and distribute forms EF01, 2 and 3 that are also available in every nomination centers countrywide to be handed over and to be filled by every Parliamentary and Presidential Candidate within sixty (60) days after the declaration of results by the National Electoral Commission (NEC)
According to Lucien Momoh, the Communications Officer at PPRC, Political Parties who fail to submit such documents to the commission after sixty (60) days of the final publication of the results, will be faced with the Commission evoking section 27 of the PPRC Act, for a political party to be de-registered as they are required to disclose to the Commission, their source of funding, adding that each party should be defended by a Sierra Leonean who is fit to vote and be voted for.
“Each party should hire a firm that should serve as an auditing firm and the person should not be a member of this political party.
The release reminded the parties of their obligations under the Political Parties Act and Statutory instrument (supplement to the Sierra Leone Gazette Vol. CXXXIX No 3, dated 17th January, 2008)
