The Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC) has ended a day’s workshop on gender and peace forum at the Sport Club along Mahei Vangahun Road in Kenema city.
The workshop attracted 70 participants from Kenema district which covered traditional leaders, women’s groups, civil society organizations and the media from the 16 chiefdoms.
The aim of the workshop is to increase women’s participation in governance at all levels with particular reference to the local council elections. According to the Assistant Information Officer, Solomon Brima, the “workshop is a mass sensitization exercise for political parties’ traditional leaders and other stakeholders in the region to join forces with the PPRC to increase women’s participation in politics.” Mr Brima added that the workshop was a countrywide exercise covering the 14 electoral districts and was jointly organized by the PPRC and the International Foundation for Electoral System (IFES) sponsored by USAID.
Similar workshops have taken place in Koidu for Kono district and in Kailahun town for Kailahun district.
