The current Champions of the Premier League, Ports Authority Football Club have in a press release reacted very strongly to several publications of the Pool Newspaper and a radio sport programme on Sky 106.6 which they claimed was “damaging, misleading and malicious” on both the Club and its Secretary General Idrissa Tarawally.
They pointed out the publications of the Pool Newspaper of 30th June,1st and 3rd July 2008 which were Captioned “Politics in Sierra Leone football”, “Captain Bloomer must hear this” and “Captain Bloomer is unfit to head Water Quay” respectively and some unfortunate statements made by a panelist Mr Ayouba Jokie in a sport programme “sports Extra” on Sky radio 106.6 on Monday 30th June 2008.
The press release also stated that in the said programme, “Mr Ayouba Jokie raised some doubts about the competence of our clubs’ Secretary General Mr Idrissa Tarawally in representing the SLPA as an institution with reference to Mr Tarawally’s role against the current SLFA Executive.”
The release mentioned that Mr Jokie also challenged their clubs’ integrity in terms of accountability and transparency citing the two CAF confederation cup competitions (A.S Bamako of Mali and EGS Gafsa of Tunisia) which were hosted here in Freetown last year.
The other part of the release mentioned the publication in the Pool newspaper of the 30th June,1st and 3rd July 2008 which they claimed “alleged/insinuated” that they are baffled with the current role being played by the Sierra Leone Ports Authority (SLPA) Football Club “so called Secretary General (Idrissa Tarawally) and that his activities have been an embarrassment to the SLPA.”
Also “That they have proofs of the corrupt activities of our overdue executive” and “That our Secretary General being a carded member of the SLPP was writing down names of perceived APC supporters for dismissals.” Furthermore “That our Secretary General abandons his job to go and campaign for SLPP aspirants in the ongoing local council elections” and “That our executive, during our CAF confederation cup competition last year ripped off the SLPA management a whooping Le 15 million Leones as fees for camping our team at the SLFA academy which was given to us free of cost.”
That our Secretary General and all of us he referred to as “caboodle received the sum of US$3,000 from EGS Gafsa as a help for accommodation while in Freetown.”
That because one Alex Mansaray who was under Mr.Tarawally’s supervision was promoted over him (because) he uttered some unprintable remarks against the APC government the Minister of Transport and Aviation and our General Manager Captain Bloomer.
The release went further that the allegations/insinuations levied against the Secretary General Mr Idrissa Tarawally and the club executive in the said articles by the Pool Newspaper on the said dates are very strong and “have the potential to destroy this young man, and the reputation of our executive.”
The release maintained that all the allegations/insinuations levied against the Secretary General and Executive is “completely baseless and unfounded with no iota of truth
they are a figment of imagination and a deliberate ploy by the editor/publisher to defame the character and integrity of our Secretary General and our executive as a whole.”
The release went further that they are aware that Mr Tarawally is a member of the ‘Dream Team’ headed by Dr Foday Bangura (Bangso) and is playing a leading role to un-sit the current SLFA executive.
They confirmed “that it is our decision not to support the incumbent SLFA executive because they have failed us all woefully in the administration of football. As an executive we are proud of him as we believe his role is as a result of his wealth of experience in football administration and because he can articulate very well. He did not commit any crime for supporting the ‘Dream Team’.”
The release mentioned that as Club Secretary General it is true that he attends football meetings and campaigns especially at this time when congress is approaching, “Knowing Mr Tarawally of being so duty conscious he will not leave his office during official working hours as the editor/publisher of the Pool Newspaper is alleging/insinuating.
Why would someone want to destroy this intelligent and hard working young man as a very responsible executive?’
To confirm the level of accountability and transparency, they promised to present their financial reports for both CAF Confederation Cup matches (AS Bamako of Mali and EGS of Tunisia) copies of which are with the SLPA and the SLFA ever since.
They concluded saying that “this matter has been referred to our solicitors for legal redress.”
