Ports Authority football club departed the shores of Sierra Leone yesterday in a very low key manner for Senegal to engage their Senegalese opponents AS Douanes in the first leg of the MTN CAF Champions league competition.
The reason of that according to some of the officials of Ports Authority football club is that the Sierra Leone Football Association failed to pay the balance air ticket for the delegation.
It was during the dying minutes that they reportedly disclosed this to them and they had to go an extra mile to make sure that the team depart as expected.
Reacting to Ports Authority’s claims the Administrative Secretary of the Sierra Leone Football Association Abubakarr Kabba said that according to the arrangement the SLFA had fulfilled their own mandate which was to give part of the money which they did and it was now left with Ports Authority football club to pay the balance money to the airlines.
Some football fans who spoke to Awoko Sports questioned if there is not enough money for the trip why are they taking along 8 officials? Some of these officials if they want to see the team play in Senegal they should pay their own fare to witness the match.
The delegation that made the trip comprises of 18 players and 8 officials the players are Abdul Bangura, Idrissa Bangura, Ibrahim Kamara, Alpha Lansana, Jacob Kamara, Daniel Foday, Suliaman Kamara, Alieu Kargbo, Ibrahim Kallay, Mohamed Jalloh, Abu Kargbo, Mohamed L Bangura, Gibrilla Conteh, Sheka O Kamara, Alfred Williams and John Wanga.
