Board member of the restructured Premier League and respected BBC sports analyst Durosimi Thomas has disclosed that Ports Authority and FC Kallon who were champions and runners up in the last premier league competition are expected to start this year’s league.
He also disclosed that during the match the winner will also receive the Super Cup trophy and at the end of the 90 minutes if the game is a draw both teams will receive one point each and if there is a winner that team will receive three points.
Duromsi also stated that in the meeting with the 14 premier league clubs they have agreed that the league will be played on one round instead of two rounds because of the rainy season.
He also mentioned that the Board has been given the power to determine which teams will be going to the provinces and which team will be playing each other.
Further Durosimi informed journalists that during the meeting those who were representing the clubs in the provinces also appealed to the premier league board to have some of the bigger teams playing in the provinces so that they will able to have a better gate taking from these matches as this will help them to improve on their finances and be able to run their clubs.
Also in the meeting, he said they spoke about the rules and regulations that will be governing the league and he also mentioned that they have also given them the mandate to look at the protest sent by the Police football team against Kambui Eagles and they are going to look at it before the start of the league.
About 10 teams have confirmed their registration and during the coming days the other clubs are expected to complete their own registration he said.
The date for the start of the league is expected to have been agreed at the meeting yesterday (after press time) but the premier league Board member disclosed that they have already secured the sum of 185 million leones to start the league.
He also mentioned disclosed that there are certain clauses in the contact that they are going to look at keenly before signing inorder not to make any mistake that will affect the league. This new contract he said will be for a period of one year and by next year they will expect bids from companies and individuals who are interested in sponsoring the league.
