The People of Port Loko District have appealed to Plan International for continued support in the education of their children especially that of the girl child.
Their appeal was directed to the Chief Executive Officer, Dr Thomas Miller whose week long visit to the country took him to Plan’s operational areas including Port Loko district.
The Plan Director and wife first visited Masiaka where they were welcomed by Plan Programme Area Manager in Port Loko, Jacques Tunkara.
Pa Foday Swarray who deputized Paramount Chief Alhaji Bomboli of Koya explained the key interventions of Plan in the chiefdom naming a few as the provision of drinking water, construction of schools and community centres.
John Bob Kamara, chairman of the Port Loko District Council said despite a million thanks to Plan for their humanitarian services, they should not relent to continue more assistance.
Dr Miller explained that Plan was a child centered development organization that does not only operate in Africa but in Asia and Latin America. He noted with delight that Plan was constrained to operate in Sierra Leone even though several sister organizations fled the country during the crisis.
He explained that the purpose of his visit was to learn more about the country and its people so as to get greater knowledge to be able influence assistance from donors
