Seven political Parties, under the banner of ‘Concerned Political Parties’ yesterday, at a press conference, pledged to accept the outcome of the just concluded Presidential, Parliamentary and Local Council Elections.
In their statements, the Secretary General for the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) Sulaiman Banja Tejan-Sie said on their part, they will accept the results, if the concerns they have raised with NEC are considered.
He said they have sent a catalogue of evidence to the Chairperson of NEC, Dr. Christiana Thorpe, which they want the Commission to look into and as long as these concerns are addressed, they will accept the results, whoever wins the elections.
Tejan-Sie however pledged his party’s commitment to peace and continued support to the rule of law.
He called on their supporters to remain calm, as the results are still being processed by NEC.
The Presidential flagbearer of the Revolutionary United Front Party (RUFP) Eldred Collins maintained that he and his supporters will accept the results that will be released by NEC and will be ready to work with whoever wins the elections, as the people have made their choice.
“I’m calling on the other political parties to accept the result, as we have only one Sierra Leone. They should be mindful of their utterance, so that they will not invoke violence in the country,” he said.
United Democratic Party (UDM) Mohamed Bangura said he is now called ‘zero, zero’ because of the results he got and that he has accepted it because in the next five years, he is going to add numbers infront, to make the number very huge.
Bangura maintained he will accept the outcome of the results, as he is doing it for the sake of peace in the country and whoever wins, he is going to work with him.
He called on all political parties to adhere to the democratic principles and should not listen to any political party that calls on them to demonstrate or do anything that will undo the peace of the country.
Mohamed Bangura also called on Political Parties to solve issues on their own and should not wait for the International community or NGO’s to solve problems for them.
The flagbearer of the United People’s Party (UNPP) James Obai Fullah said the process went on smoothly although there were few skirmishes.
He stated that they are all Sierra Leoneans and a lot of suffering occurred during the war which they do not want to happen and for the good of the country, they will accept the result.
Statements were also made by representative of the other Political Parties; PLP and CDP.
