Allieu Mucktarru Kallay, who was a political adviser to President George H. Bush of America in 1996, has declared his intention to be mayor of the Freetown City Council.
He added that he knew the constraints and challenges the council and people were facing.
Explaining further at a press conference at the All People’s Congress head office in Freetown on Tuesday, he noted that, “I know we need to look for the future of our neighbourhood and the wellbeing of the residents of Freetown. This is why I will work for you”.
Mr Kallay disclosed that, “today the municipality is faced with hardships and difficulties as the country forges ahead from the ashes of war”, adding that in 1997 he brought a 40ft container of used clothing which he distributed among the displaced, orphans, and disabled.
In 2007, he noted, he also brought a 20 ft container of Quranic books which were distributed to most of the mosques in the Western Area.
The aspiring mayor said, “as somebody that was born in the APC family, APC runs through my veins completed with various experience in politics, I think I deserve a chance to be given the APC symbol”.
Highlighting his goals, Mr Kallay said education, environment, transportation, tough on crimes and health care were his goals, noting that as a father “I know how important good schools are for our children”.
Mucktarru Kallay said he was the son of the late Chief Alhaji Alimammy Mucktarru Kallay, founder member of the APC East 11 Constituency which is now known as Constituency 105.
He explained that his political experience continued when he returned to the United States of America (USA) in 1980. In 1992, he disclosed, he was the only African (Sierra Leonean) to receive the presidential trust award at the White House by President George H. Bush.
In 1999, he was appointed political adviser to President George H. Bush and in 2000 political adviser to President William Jefferson Clinton.
He said in 2006 he was appointed election chief judge in the state of Maryland in USA. The aspiring mayor said he had a Masters in Business Administration, Bsc in Accounting among others.
