Police turn St Charles Church entrance to dumpsite
After several interventions by St Charles Church members to the police to remove all the vehicles parked in the gate of the Church has not been heeded to, the members are now frustrated as this coming Sunday Church Services will restart. In an interview with a senior member of the Church, Joshua Nicol he said they are tired as he personally have met the Police officers to remove the vehicles but they told him that they do not have any other place to park the vehicles that have been involved in road accidents.
Mr Nicol said he is not the only one and the Reverend Elkanah Thomas who is in charge of the Church have spoken to the police several times and at times they would promise to remove them and in other circumstances they will say the investigations are still on. “We are really tired with them and we are planning to take the matter to Inspector General of Police Ambrose Sovula to instruct them to clear the gate of the Church because services will start this Sunday and that is where some of our members park their vehicles during services. We want the frontage of our Church to look clean instead the police have made the place so unsightly and not helping us to do the right thing.”
Mr Joshua Nicol also noted that just near the gate there is a workshop for wood who are also causing so much trouble for the people of Regent. He said the rains over the weekend saw the shavings from the wood being pushed into the stream thereby causing serious blockage and overflow.
“They too we have met with them and even have complained to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) but all the letters and representation we have made has yielded no result. The weekend flooding has now pushed members of the community to take stringent measures to stop all those causing problems in the village.” Jeremiah Street in the Village was flooded seriously as some people were carried out of their houses to save their lives. The street is not motorable as many people living there had to park their vehicles at the transport park.
Mr Nicol says they are calling on all Regentonians to come onboard as they are now engaging on community work to prevent damages to houses and to save lives.
