Police officer faces robbery and murder charges

Chernor Sesay an OSD officer attached to the North West Region Port Loko district at the Operational Support Department on Monday 12th April 2021 made his second appearance together with four others before Magistrate Mark Ngegba of court No.1 on allegation of murder and robbery.

Police alleged that these accused persons conspired together to rob Mohammed Kamara (deceased) off properties worth twenty four million Leones. Sesay and four others beat and shot Kamara to death.

The accused include Chernor Sesay (OSD Officer) Ishmael Samuka, Michael Kinny Ndaneno, Abdul Bomboli Kanu and Sheku Sesay.

They were arraigned before the court on three counts of conspiracy to commit murder, murder and robbery with aggravation all contrary to law.

According to the indictment, the aforementioned accused persons, on Tuesday 12 January 2021 at Rogbere junction, Port Loko District, conspired together with other persons unknown to commit murder.

The indictment also stated that the accused also robbed the deceased one techno mobile phone, one Nokia mobile phone, one Dell computer, fiscal cash of fifteen million Leones and other properties that sum up to the total value of twenty four million Leones (Le 24M) properties of the deceased.

The wife of the deceased at the last adjourned date did not finish her testimony.

Continuing her evidence in Chief, wife of the deceased Memunatu Kamara recognized the accused and recalled the 12th January 2021.

She said on that day, at midnight, after her husband had been shot thrice by the accused, the deceased fell on the ground and he started crying and she saw blood oozing out of the deceased body.

Memunatu continued that the third accused (Michael) hit her with a cutlass on her head and hand and blood also started oozing out of her hand.

She said that, the accused then instructed her to move over the next room and there they threatened to beat her if she did not give them money after taking fiscal cash of fifteen million from them, but she told them that she did not have any money.

The witness continued that the fifth accused (Sheku) collected all their mobile phones and they went away.

She furthered that after the accused had left the house, she quickly went to her husband and she met him fighting for his life until he passed away, she expressed herself in tears.

Police prosecutor A.S.P Ibrahim Mansaray requested for an adjournment.

Prior to that, the witness said before the incident at night the third accused (Michael) went to their house to buy diesel and he was accompanied by the fifth accused (Sheku) who told her that he is the son of the Chief at Masiaka.

More witnesses are expected to testify.  Meanwhile, Magistrate Mark Ngegba adjourned the matter to the 15 April 2021.
