The long standing bush dispute between the inhabitants of Ngiegboiya and Nyamiana villages in the Gorama Mende chiefdom in Kenema district has been finally laid to rest. This happened with the constant intervention of the police personnel based at Mondema town under the command of Sergeant Mohamed Mansaray. The two villages have been in the magistrate court in Kenema over a piece of land situated between the two villages that have been a stumbling block to development in the chiefdom and both parties have agreed now to withdraw the matter from court.
Speaking to Awoko in Kenema city sergeant Mohamed Mansaray disclosed that since he has taken over the police post that is hosted at the Mondema town court barri, his biggest achievement is the laying to rest of the long standing dispute with the intervention of him and his personnel. He says he used his personal motor bike and resources to constantly patrol the length and breadth of the chiefdom which he said has drastically reduced the crime rate in the chiefdom. He says majority of the roads in the chiefdom are not motorable to vehicular traffic but few are braved by motor bikes.
Talking about Gender Based Violence (GBV) in the chiefdom he says in collaboration with the personnel of the Family Support Unit (FSU) they have been on sensitization meetings within the chiefdom with parents, teachers and other stakeholders about the value of education for their children. Such meetings has evidenced that there is a reduction of teenage pregnancy in the chiefdom as compared to the past.
Talking about constraints for him and his personnel he disclosed that there is no police post and barracks at Mondema town for police personnel, but revealed that the relationship between the police and the community people is very cordial.
Talking to Thomas Bayoh a trader’s union chairman in Kenema who is a descendant from the chiefdom says there is the need for the formation of the Local Policing Partnership Board (LPPB) in the chiefdom which will adequately help the police in policing the entire chiefdom as elections time is fast approaching.
