The Officer –in-Charge of information at the Rogbaneh Police Station in Makeni, Sergeant George, has dismissed rumours that a police raid at the residence of a notorious drug dealer was to grab armed robbers.
The operation, which took place Saturday morning, was coordinated by ASP Charlie supported by a crack squad from the Operation Security Department (OSD).
According to information gathered by neighbours of the drug baron Abu Bakr Kanu of 12 Kojo Street in Makeni, two people suspected to be army officers arrived at the residence of the drug dealer in the early hours of Saturday morning. The two are highly suspected of having robbed a Fullah businessman in Freetown in hard foreign currency and escaped to Makeni.
They sought refugee at the residence of Bakr Kanu for a while. They later left for an unknown destination after sharing a portion of their loot with their host who later abandoned his residence.
Acting on a tip-off, police took a late move when they raided the residence of the drug baron and discovered it empty.
Speaking to Awoko at his office, O.C. George disclosed that the raid carried out that Saturday mourning was in line with a memo from headquarters in Freetown to raid all hard drug dealers in Makeni ahead of the Bob Marley night celebrations.
According to the information boss, at the time of the raid Bakr Kanu was on the run and could not confirm whether he had been arrested.
