Barely 90 days after the convention of the People’s Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC), its leader Charles Margai on Saturday announced his running mate for the July 28 election. At a press conference, former Health Minister in the first Tejan-Kabbah government Ibrahim I. Tejan- Jalloh was presented to the media as the running mate selected from the many ambitious candidates. Mr Margai said, “choosing a running is not a thing to vote for but it’s like choosing a wife which means you will not choose a wife whom you will not be comfortable with”.
In choosing a running mate, the PMDC leader added, “is a national issue as it has to be in the interest of the nation and people, so I did not do it alone but in consultation with the executive members of the party”. He further stated that they had kept to their promise of choosing a running mate 90 days after their convention. The PMDC leader urged those who were eyeing that position to continue to work in the country and people’s interest.
Amongst those who were the hot contenders are Dr Osaio Kamara, Dauda Tombo Bangura, Dr Soko Kabia, Mrs Rebecca Mbalu Conteh and Abu Bakarr Kamara. In his acceptance speech, Mr Tejan-Jalloh said he was overwhelmed by the appointment which was a clear manifestation that the party stood for the truth. He promised that with the party leadership they would ensure that they work for the development of the people of Sierra Leone. Mr Tejan-Jalloh explained that, “the party [PMDC] has clearly manifested to the public that it is a mature party and all our work is being done through God”.
