The Presidential candidate of the People’s Liberation Party (PLP), Dr Kandeh Baba Conteh was woefully defeated in the parliamentary race for the seat in constituency 101.
Dr Conteh who is also running for the Presidency was defeated by Abdul Kamara of the All People’s Congress (APC) which seems to be clinching all the parliamentary seats in the Western area as they have already won 12 seats according to the latest results released by the National Electoral Commission.
The PLP flag bearer could only poll 617 votes compared to the APC who trashed him with 12,186 votes.
Dr Conteh is also doing badly in the presidential race and has polled only 10,321 or 0.6 % of the total votes cast, beating only Abdul Kady Karim of the United National Peoples Party (UNPP) who is presently last with 0.4 or 6,931votes.
Dr Conteh was a Member of the last parliament representing the Peoples Liberation Party which had won seats under the leadership of Johnny Paul Koroma the former leader of the AFRC junta who fled after being accused of treason, and who was later indicted in his absence by the Special Court. In Johnny Paul’s absence Dr Baba Conteh assumed the position of leader of the party in Parliament.
