The Peace and Liberation Party (PLP) alliance with the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), has transformed into mudslinging between the party’s leader Dr Baba Conteh and the currently suspended national organizing secretary, Amara Kargbo aka Mr P.
In a press release signed by Amara Kargbo, he accuses Dr Conteh of “mortgaging [the] PLP for financial interest and personal gain.”
According to the release, the national executive and party members see themselves accountable to the self-imposed leader instead of the party “[thus] building a personality cult around him.”
The release further states that the PLP leader is running the party’s administration as a one man show.
But Dr Conteh shrugged off the allegations against him when asked, and explained that “Mr P is mad because he got suspended after being found guilty of misappropriating monies issued to him by the party for campaigning”.
He accused his accuser of not being vibrant in the party affairs, adding that “he has not been to the office for over three months now.”
Dr Conteh explained that forming an alliance with the SLPP was done in good faith and in the interest of national cohesion, adding further that “PLP supporters are working closely with the SLPP in Bo and Kenema”.
