The Presidential candidate of the Peace and Liberation Party (PLP), Dr Baba Kande Conteh has blasted the manner of voting claiming it was done on sentiments and tribal lines.
The PLP leader was speaking late Monday evening at the Victoria Park where the coalition of civil society groups had invited them the political party leaders to make a commitment to a violence free election.
The PLP leader was furious when given the opportunity to speak, expressing his disappointment on how the voting was done on elections day.
He stated “we have reached a point where truth should be the watch word for us and one of the reasons we went to war was because we failed to say the truth and correct our tribesmen I am going to speak the truth” he said.
He continued “it seems we Sierra Leoneans like creating problems for ourselves, after which we start searching out for solutions.
The problem is because we move on sentiments and yes, you voted on that too all of you voted on party lines.”
Dr Baba Kande Conteh went on “let me tell you this election is not a matter of credibility or whether you have integrity even if you are a criminal but your color is red, you are voted for, and if you are called Yeanoh but you are green you are also voted for.
That’s the reality and some other parties increased their votes because of tribal reasons’’
Even when the PLP leader was cautioned by the chairman for the occasion Prof Eldred Jones that campaigns were over he should not deviate but he went further to blame the voters for voting for his opponents as he put it because of their false promises.
“But you missed the point,” he said “maybe I was philosophical because I’m not an amateur politician nor a medical doctor but a Phd holder in political philosophy”
He was again cautioned to give a peace message for which he said the invitation was not for his party as they have conducted themselves peacefully and were not part of the political parties that were involved in election violence.
