The Premier League Board which is headed by Rodney Michael has unveiled their sponsors and one of their partners in this year’s Premier League which is Africell and their partners Mercury International in a colorful ceremony held at the Atlantic hall of the National Stadium in Freetown.
The Board Chairman Rodney Michael in his statement said they are happy for such an occasion as they want to disclose their general terms and obligations of the sponsorship.
Also he said they want to throw light on the progress they have made so far and the intentions for the league which will be named Africell Premier League.
Rodney Michael also thanked the main sponsor Africell for their willingness to review their decision and accepting to return as the main sponsor of the premier league, especially taking into cognizance that they had not budgeted for the premier league in their 2011 budget.
Rodney Michael further disclosed that the sponsorship package includes, Le 100 million Leones to be paid in 2 instalments.
Fifty million Leones will be given before the commencement of the Premier League and the balance 50 Million Leones will be paid on 4th April 2011. Africell will also provide all match tickets in quantities recommended by the coordinating committee and they will also provide promotional and marketing opportunities such as The Giant Bill Board at the front of St Joseph’s Convent.
They are also going to use their radio and Newspaper partners to promote the premier league creating a special service for the general public to receive information of the premier league by paying a small fee.
The PLB Chairman also stated that in addition Africell will also provide the man of the match and monthly awards regularly. He also disclosed that the board intends to establish as many partners as possible with sponsors to ease the burden on the clubs and the board.
He expressed the boards’ gratitude to the SLFA Executive and Congress for the mandate at the Moyamba Congress in January this year to subsidize the Premier League with the sum of $10, 000, which was converted as Le 42,500,000 by the Sierra Leone Commercial Bank (SLCB)
He also revealed that the Premier League will commence this weekend 26th of February between Blackpool and Ports Authority and ends on the 26th June 2011 and matches will be played at the National Stadium, Freetown, The Wusum Grounds in Makeni, The Kono Field, The Kenema Field and the Bo Coronation field.
